- Venue: DIGI LAB, Southeast Asia Center, Tsinghua University
- Format: In person
- Description: Discusses human–computer interaction's position as an interdisciplinary field and its current development across industry, academia, and research.
- Panelists:
- Zhiyong Fu — Associate professor, Academy of Arts and Design, Tsinghua University; president of International Chinese Association of Computer Human Interaction
- Jun Hu — Associate professor, Eindhoven University of Technology
- Huawei Tu — Assistant professor, La Trobe University
- Yun Wang — Associate professor, Beihang University
- Fang Liu — PhD student, Xiamen University
- Moderator: Yingying She
- Topics:
- Innovation through links with other disciplines: Do our ways of thinking as human–computer interaction researchers and designers constrain other possibilities? What should human–computer interaction learn from interdisciplinary exchange, and how can it connect with traditional culture?
- Industry–academia–research priorities for human–computer interaction: How can university talent development connect seamlessly with companies' innovation needs?
- Interdisciplinary talent development in human–computer interaction and different models in China and abroad: How can young scholars identify their own roles and collaborators during their education and research careers?
- Practical directions and important current issues, among other topics.
Philosophical Foundations and Future Prospects of human–computer interaction
- Time: November 13, 2023, 01:00PM–05:30PM
- Venue: DIGI LAB, Southeast Asia Center, Tsinghua University
- Format: In person
- Description: Explores the nature of human–computer interaction thought and its future role.
- Panelists:
- Xiangshi Ren — Professor, Kochi University of Technology, Japan; founding president of International Chinese Association of Computer Human Interaction (online)
- Shengdong Zhao — Associate professor, National University of Singapore
- Xiaojuan Ma — Associate professor, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- Pengcheng An — Assistant professor, Southern University of Science and Technology
- Moderator: Chen Wang
- Topics:
- Future human–computer relations: Beginning with the panelists' current concerns, we examine how their understanding of interaction developed through their research careers, then discuss human–computer relationships and possible evolution in future interaction paradigms.
- human–computer interaction and social issues: Technological development affects the psychological, social, and economic lives of individuals and groups, positively and negatively. Should human–computer interaction help explain and address these issues, and how? How does it affect the development of human capabilities?
- Philosophical foundations of human–computer interaction: Drawing on panelists' diverse backgrounds, how do thought and culture shape the human–computer interaction framework and its values? What should the essential contribution of human–computer interaction be?
- Directions for reflection: Building on these discussions, we explore practical and collaborative directions, potentially including innovations in human–computer interaction theory, empirical research, and applications.
